The research for toroidal vortex has been selected as one of the 2022 China Optics Top 10 Progress (Basic Research). This is the second time the team's work has received this honor, following their research on spatio-temporal vortexing of optical fields in 2020. This work provides a new idea for the generation and characterisation of three-dimensional complex spatio-temporal light fields, which will have important and far-reaching significance for theoretical studies of ring-symmetric electrodynamics, ring-symmetric plasma physics, optical symmetry and topology, quantum physics, and astrophysics, as well as for applied studies of optical sensing, optical manipulation, and optical information and energy transfer.
In addition, Symmetry-determined Optical Spin Topology, in which the team members participated, won the nomination award of the 2022 China Optics Top 10 Progress (Basic Research Category).
