COSMOS has recently been invited to become an affiliate member of the WPI-SKCM2 International Collaboration at Hiroshima University in Japan. The World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI) is an initiative of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan, implemented by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and Technology (JSPS), which aims to establish world-class international research centers. WPI-SKCM2Sustainability with Knotted Chiral Meta Matterat Hiroshima University is the 14th such center to be approved.

In March 2023, Professor Qiwen Zhan was invited to participate in the launching ceremony of WPI-SKCM2, and made a presentation, which attracted much attention. in August, WPI-SKCM2 formally invited COSMOS to become an Affiliate Member, and other members of the collaboration come from top research institutes from all over the world, such as MAP, MIT, Caffrey Institute of Theoretical Physics, and RIKEN, etc. In September, Dr Qian Cao represented COSMOS to participate in the first academic exchange meeting of WPI-SKCM2.

As Affiliate Members, participants can exchange short-term (up to 6 months) PhD and post-doctoral visits and jointly apply for long-term WPI-SKCM2 research projects through WPI-SKCM2 funding. Students and researchers from member institutions can participate in online and offline conferences by researchers from all over the world, as well as in short-term international schools in summer and winter.

The COSMOS and WPI-SKCM2 research philosophies are very closely aligned, and we are looking forward to welcoming outstanding young scholars who are interested in conducting relevant research to apply for PhD and postdoctoral fellowships at COSMOS.
